DC Gators Softball Team Looking for Players

This year marks the tenth year of the DC Gators fielding a team in the Capitol Alumni Network (CAN) Softball League and we’re looking for some more players, especially females.  If you’re interested in joining the team, please contact Ron McLendon at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

The regular season is 14 games with a post-season tournament at Goddard Softball Fields in Greenbelt, MD. The majority of our games will be on Friday nights or Saturday afternoons at the fields on Ohio Drive NW or on the grounds of the Washington Monument.  Our first game is Friday April 13, 2012 at 6:30 pm on the grounds of the Washington Monument.

There is no fee to play in the regular season; however you must be a UFAA member in good standing to play on the team. If you are not currently a UFAA member in good standing or need to renew your membership, please visit www.ufalumni.ufl.edu to do so. When asked what chapter please indicate Washington DC Gator Club. There will be a post season tournament fee (between $35-$45) that is payable at the end of the regular season

We have not yet scheduled a first practice but will look at having one sometime in the next three weeks at the Washington Monument Grounds.  We will have a Florida Gators flag at the site for a visual marker for those looking to find us. During the course of the season, we will send out Evites to gauge who can attend games from week to week. Please respond to the Evite with your reply (yes or no) so we know who is in or out, if you do not reply to these Evites, we can’t guarantee playing time for that particular game, and if you don’t reply to three Evites in a row we will remove your info from our list.

For more information about CAN, go to www.dcalum.org and click on sports then softball. You'll have to register but it's free. This is a great place to keep up with our schedule and get news about the league, rules of the league, equipment standards, etc.  Please review this website because it will answer many questions you have about the league including important dates for the season, divisions and schedules.

If you don’t want to play but still want to come out and meet new people, let me know that also and feel free to come out and watch the games and meet up with us afterwards at The Exchange Saloon, the official CAN Softball Bar located on 1719 G Street, NW, in Washington, DC.

Again, for more information on the DC Gators Softball team contact Ron McLendon at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
